Met deze cursus neem ik je mee in mijn illustratiewereld en leer je nieuwe technieken en materialen kennen. Ik laat je zien hoe en met welke materialen ik werk. We gaan op zoek naar jouw eigen identiteit als kunstenaar en laten verschillende technieken aan bod komen om dat te realiseren. We bekijken planten, bloemen, hun texturen, en gebruiken verschillende technieken en materialen (door elkaar) om het gewenste effect te bereiken. Door te observeren, kleurenleer toe te passen en composities te bepalen kom je tot eigen prachtige botanisch kunstwerk.

Wat je zult leren:

  • Basisprincipes van botanisch schilderen, waaronder compositie, kleurentheorie en penseelvoering.

  • Technieken voor het nauwkeurig vastleggen van de details en texturen van planten en bloemen.

  • Stap-voor-stap begeleiding bij het maken van (realistische) botanische illustraties, van de eerste schetsen tot het uiteindelijke eindwerkstuk.

  • Inzicht in het selecteren van de juiste materialen, waaronder verf, penselen en papier, om professionele resultaten te bereiken.

  • Tips en trucs voor het bereiken van diepte, licht en schaduw in je schilderijen, waardoor je botanische onderwerpen tot leven komen.

  • Onderzoeken van verschillende botanische onderwerpen, zoals bloemen, bladeren, vruchten en meer.

Iedereen die geïnteresseerd is in de wereld van planten en bloemen, en wil experimenteren met materialen.

Welke materialen heb ik nodig?

Een materiaallijst wordt na aankoop naar je toegestuurd. Dit is een basis lijst met tips voor oa een schetsboek, verf en potloden. Ik heb zelf tijdens de cursus ook materialen bij me die je kan uitproberen.

Is ervaring vereist?

Nee:) Het is ideaal als je al basiskennis hebt van tekenen of schilderen, maar zo niet, dan begeleid ik je door het hele proces.

Botanical Drawing Course - Studying and drawing real plants in the greenhouse of the Kweektuin in Haarlem

With this course, I will take you into my illustration world and introduce you to new techniques and materials. I will show you how and with which materials I work. We will search for our own identity as an artist and explore different techniques to realize that. We look at plants, flowers, their textures and use different techniques and materials (interchangeably) to achieve the desired effect. By observing and applying colour theory and compositions, you will create your own beautiful botanical artwork.

LOCATION The plant greenhouse in the Kweektuin in Haarlem, and, of course, and all the gardens of the Kweektuin.

For whom?

Anyone interested in the world of plants and flowers, and wanting to experiment with materials.

What materials do I need?

A materials list, along with reference photos will be sent to you after purchase. This is a basic list with tips including a sketchbook, paints and pencils. I will also have materials with me during the course that you can try out.

What we will learn:

  • Basic principles of botanical painting, including composition, colour theory and brushwork.

  • Techniques for accurately capturing the details and textures of plants and flowers.

  • Step-by-step guidance on creating (realistic) botanical illustrations, from the first sketches to the final final artwork.

  • Understanding how to select the right materials, including paints, brushes and paper, to achieve professional results.

  • Tips and tricks for achieving depth, light and shadow in your paintings, bringing your botanical subjects to life.

  • Examine different botanical subjects, including flowers, leaves, fruits and more.

Is experience required?

No:) It is ideal if you already have basic knowledge of drawing or painting, but if not, I will guide you through the whole process.

Is the class in English?

The class can be done in Dutch and English simultaneously. I will teach in both languages, giving instructions to everyone, and can answer your personal art questions in English if needed.
